Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has just closed on land for its anticipated new south-side restaurant, which will be Wichita’s fifth.

In six to eight weeks, the restaurant chain will break ground at 3450 S. Meridian. That’s right across the street from the entrance to the South YMCA and just to the south of the Parkview Southern Baptist Church.

“We are answering the many emails, Instagrams, Facebook posts and everything else that have been asking us to put a Freddy’s down south for many years,” said Scott Redler, one of the restaurant’s founders.

The new Freddy’s will be corporate-owned, and it may feel a little unfamiliar to Wichita Freddy’s fans. Since our last Freddy’s went up at 420 S. Ridge Road in the spring of 2011, the chain has upgraded and changed many parts of its design, from seating to restrooms to floor tiles to wall decor. The new Freddy’s will have all the latest upgrades, and it will also serve as a prototype to test a new, more efficient cook-line configuration, Redler said.
