Derby’s Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers officially marked its expansion with a large donation to a nonprofit group.

The Wichita-based restaurant chain donated $10,000 to the national nonprofit Kids In Need Foundation Nov. 29 in a brief ceremony at the eatery, 2100 N. Rock Rd.

The donation stems from National Frozen Custard Day, which was held Aug. 8. At that time, the company sold its single cone and dish custard treats for $1.

It pledged to donate half of its sales from that promotion to one of two nonprofit children’s organizations based on whichever organization received the most votes from guests of Freddy’s restaurants across the nation.
