Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburger restaurant is moving into the Pasadena/Bay Area in a big way over the next year.

First, will be a Pearland restaurant opening this summer. Then, the Kansas-based chain will open one in Pasadena at the end of June at 4637 East Sam Houston Parkway South. And a ground-breaking ceremony for a restaurant in League City, at Bay Colony Town Center, was scheduled for the last week of June, with the site expected to open early next year.

Described as a “quick service” restaurant where meals are cooked to order, the restaurant brands itself as a family friendly hang-out that harks back to simpler times, down to the 1950s red-and-white color scheme and photos of Freddy Simon, for whom the chain is named, in military uniform.

“It’s a great place to come and put the cell phones away and chat with the kids,” said Padden Nelson, who runs the Houston franchise. “We don’t have televisions in there. We don’t give a toy. It’s a fun, light atmosphere. We really cater to families, but we also get businessmen and women in who want to eat quickly.”

The 3,500-square-foot restaurant coming to 2620 Pearland Parkway in Pearland is expected to open mid- to late August.
