Two national restaurant chains have come to National City.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened its first San Diego location Oct. 11 at 327 Mile of Cars Way.

The 3,000 square-foot franchise restaurant seats 100 guests with additional seating on the patio.

Freddy’s has 75 employees with the majority of them from National City, said Wendy Hoier, with Viking Commercial Construction, Inc.

Freddy’s is known for its steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs, shoestring fries and fried pickles. For dessert, chocolate or vanilla frozen custard with more than 30 toppings and mix-ins such as fruit, candy and nuts.

The Kansas-based chain has more than 200 restaurant nationwide. Two other Freddy’s locations are slated for San Marcos’ Nordahl Marketplace, expected to open by the end of the year, and another planned for the 4S Ranch Area.
