Representatives with Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers announced the start of construction of the restaurant chain’s new Denison location this week. Earlier this spring, the chain announced plans to open its first Texoma location south of the Red River along the intersection of Morton Street and U.S. Highway 75.

Representatives with the chain said the location is expected to be open by the end of the year.

“Katy Memorial Expressway is a nice, busy retail corridor and U.S. Route 75 brings a steady flow of traffic to the area,” franchise owner Mark Thompson said in an email statement from Freddy’s corporate offices. “The family-friendly community that Denison offers makes the area a great next stop for Freddy’s. We hope to be a popular dining option for Denison residents, as well as for those travelers staying in the nearby hotels.”

The development was first publicly discussed by city officials during a Denison Planning and Zoning meeting in May. During the meeting, representatives for the restaurant chain submitted a site plan for a lot just south of the Denison Walmart, which located along the Hwy. 75 service road.

Meeting documents outlined plans to build a 4,250-square-foot restaurant with an occupancy of 120. In an update issued by Freddy’s Thursday, Public Relations Coordinator Allison Schultz said the building would be 3,188 square feet with seating for 104 guests. Additional seating would be available on an outside patio, she said. The location would also have drive-thru service.
