GALLUP, N.M. – Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers recently broke ground at W. Maloney Avenue and US 491 near Rio West Mall. The fast-casual eatery is slated to open in the spring of 2017 and marks a second northwestern New Mexico site for Freddy’s, which opened a location last year in Farmington.
“We chose the Rio West Mall area because it’s a prime point of interest in Gallup and has a steady flow of traffic through the area,” said Ken Brock, franchise operator. “It’s a solid fit for Freddy’s and we hope to be a popular dining option for local shoppers, area residents and travelers along I-40.”
The 3,200 square-foot freestanding location will seat 90 guests, with additional seating on the patio. Drive-thru service will also be available. Menu items include lean ground-beef steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs and shoestring fries, as well as dessert treats prepared with a choice of chocolate or vanilla frozen custard that is churned fresh several times throughout the day.
“Many of our guests are interested to learn that a steakburger patty is lean ground beef that’s pressed thin and seared on a flat-top grill to create crispy edges, lacelike in appearance,” said Brock. “It makes for a great burger. Similarly, frozen custard is slightly different than ice cream in that it’s a denser, creamier product. The churning process eliminates excess air and ice crystals creating a product that’s smooth and rich.”
