COLUMBIA, S.C. – Fast-casual restaurant franchise, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, opens in Columbia on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 457 Killian Rd. near Kroger Marketplace. It marks the first Freddy’s for the Midlands, and the third in South Carolina, joining locations in Easley and Greenville. Local nonprofit organization Girls on the Run will receive a portion of sales from select frozen custard treats purchased through March 14.

“Frozen custard is denser and creamier than ice cream,” said Brett Rickert, franchise owner. “We use a special churning process that eliminates excess air and ice crystals, resulting in a product that’s smooth and rich. Through March 14, the local chapter of Girls on the Run will receive 10 percent of all sales from regular and large size frozen custard treats.”

The 3,000 square-foot, freestanding location seats 100 guests, and has additional seating on the patio. Drive-thru service is also available. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Menu items include lean ground beef steakburgers, Vienna beef hot dogs and shoestring fries, as well as dessert treats prepared with a choice of chocolate or vanilla frozen custard that is churned fresh throughout the day.

“Freddy’s is a better burger concept,” said Rickert. “We use premium ingredients and we cook to order. If you get the chance, choose a seat near the kitchen and watch how our team members communicate and work together to cook the steakburgers and other menu items. It’s a fun time.”
