A frozen custard and steakburger franchise has broken ground on its second Grand Rapids location.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers said last week construction has begun at 25 Lake Michigan Dr. NW.

The location is slated to open next spring.

The 3,300 square foot, free-standing location will seat 110 guests, with additional seating on the patio. Drive-thru service will also be available.

The fast-casual restaurant will serve lean ground-beef steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs and shoestring fries, as well as dessert treats prepared with chocolate or vanilla frozen custard that’s churned fresh several times throughout the day.

The first West Michigan Freddy’s location opened earlier this year in Grand Rapids, at 3777 Plainfield Ave. NE.

Joe Reber is the owner of both locations.

Scott Redler and Bill, Randy and Freddy Simon founded Freddy’s in 2002 in Wichita, Kansas.

The franchise now includes 229 locations in 30 states.
